a project
The aim of Global Village was an international exhibition with innovating art that contributes to the public for a better understanding of the effects and opportunities of globalisation.

exhibition concept
The theme of Global Village is globalisation (like internet, media, mass consumption and climate change). We don’t want a pro- or con-globalisation exhibition. We see globalisation as just there, with its effects and opportunities (like this project). Artists from all parts of the world show innovating art (like installation, video en digital art) about this theme.

While the artworks reflected globalisation in a broad spectrum, the exhibition set-up concentrated on the internet community. We did this by mentioning at the exhibition and in the catalogue, how we got in contact with that particular artist; via internet networks, from personal contact or others. In this way we map the real and virtual network.

Alkmaar
From 22 till 31 January this exhibition was held at the Grand Church of Alkmaar. In the 16th century this church wasn't only a place of worship, but far more a meeting place. That made it the perfect location to held this exhibition. Almost 70 artists from every continent showed their innovating art about the theme of globalisation and met the other artists as well as the public. During the opening weekend different performances were held by artists and musicians.

The film made by Carlos Scaranci gives a good impression of the exhibition and the opening.

After the exhibition in Alkmaar we created our own network site. So the artists can keep in tough with each other, start collaborations or new projects and exhibitions.

previews
Prior to the exhibition previews were held in Heerhugowaard and in Alkmaar. On each preview a number of the selected artists showed a second artwork. In Heerhugowaard the preview was held at 2 locations, namely in Cool art and culture and in the Artotheek with the foyer of the cityhall. The location of the preview in Alkmaar was livingroom gallery Atelier 9en40.
