The nationwide protest 'The Netherlands screams for culture' on 20 November 2010 demanded a follow up! The big cutbacks in Government grants are a huge setback for the cultural entrepreneurs in the Netherlands. It seems as if culture isn't very visible to the public at large. Should cultural producers be more active to reach the public?!
That's why Provadja, YXIE Lab and stichting White Cube organised on Saturday evening 18 December 2010 THE SCREAM!. A surprising fundraiser full different forms of art and culture. The profits of this evening went to the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. So that they can make culture still possible in the Northern region of Holland.
That night a guided tour around the exhibition La Dolce Vita of YXIE Lab and stichting White Cube was presented to the public. This exhibition was held in the Doelengebouw in Alkmaar. Because this old, monumental building doesn't have heating the public received first a glass of hot Gluhwein before the guided tour begun. The public saw art from Jonna Pedersen (Denmark), Robert Pennekamp, Laura Wagenaars, Emeka Ogboh (Nigeria) and Ellen van Putten. The movie La Dolce Vita from Federico Fellini was presented on a TV-screen.

After the tour the public went through the snow to theatre Provadja in Alkmaar. There they received a cup of coffee before they went to see the Dutch movie Majesteit. After this movie full of the best Dutch actors they went to the bar inside the theatre. There an auction with drawings from the Danish artist Jonna Pedersen was held followed by a mind-blowing performance of Peter van Raamsdonks jazz combo.

THE SCREAM! turned out to be an adventurage cultural journey full of art, theatre and music of the best quality for the good cause! This evening proofed that the public at large is interested in as long as they are seduced with surprising programs.
